The Hemingway Hero
Characteristics
The code hero was made especially popular by author Ernest Hemingway. These heroes are courageous, confident and introspective. The key feature of the code hero is that they are static and unchanging throughout the entire story. They are people of action instead of words. They stay true to their code even in a violent world. They need to prove themselves a man by meeting death on his own terms. This must be repeated though because they have to constantly prove themselves. In most of these stories the hero eventually accepts death and dies on his own terms.
